Solution - How to Change Dell Service Tag on any DeLL Laptop Model.

1. Download the Dell Latitude and Inspirion BIOS Upgrade and Diagnostics CD

2. Unzip the file and burn the ISO to a cd

Unzip the file using winzip or 7-zip and you will end up with a file called Dell Portable Bios and Diags Rev A34.iso. Use Nero, Roxio, Image Burn (whatever program you might have) to burn the image to a cd.

3. Boot from the cd

Stick the cd in the laptop and turn it on. Hit F12 at the DELL logo and you will get the Preparing one-time boot menu ..... choose CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive.

4. Choose a selection
The cd will boot up and give you 4 options to select from. Choose option 3. Run the Service Tag Utility

5.Erase the current service tag

It will come up and warn you that choosing yes will erase the asset, owner and service tag. Luckily we don't use either of the first two fields so I just choose yes and hit enter. If you do use asset and owner info in the BIOS I suggest you write them down first.

6. Enter in the correct Service Tag

It will then erase the incorrect service tag and ask you to enter a new one. Enter in the correct one and hit enter.

7. Verify the Service Tag

It will ask you to verify the service tag. Enter in the correct service tag and hit enter again.

8. Are you Sure?
It will ask you if you are sure you want to change the service tag. Choose yes

9. Operation successful

It should tell you it was successful. Remove the cd and reboot. Your service tag is now changed. I tried rescanning the laptop in spiceworks but alot of the info was still messed up so I deleted and scanned the network... from there everything was fine.

I have a problem with my dell laptop vostro 1520, and it has had 2 phases.first, i press the power button it turns on ,but screen black,simply nothing but the fan and drive sound like spinning and working,only the 3 numlock,scroll and capitol lights on,not the cpu one, and it just hangs in there like that.Second, now after several attempts in the previous state,now i press the power,it turns on,no lights on, the in 7 or 8 secs it turns off,again screen totally black.
p.s:battery and power and adapter are fine,i tried the "take power and battery off and press power 30-60 secs" and nothing happened, no such history in the past.

DELL laptop showing black screen after start

DELL VOSTRO 1088. It is turning on and then the screen is going blank and black after showing the windows logo. My laptop was running well and suddenly this problem occurred. I turned off the laptop forcefully, and from then I am facing this problem. I have some important documents in my C drive where the windows is installed. So I can't format it also. Dell Inspiron M5010 giving 7 beeps and no display.

searches and came up with the same answer, Bad Processor. Replaced the processor one evening and that resolved the problem. Power unit up the next morning and had no display with 7 beeps. Could I just have a bad mother board.
Can't tell, the display is blank. It takes approximately 20 sec. for the beeps to start. When I did an inspection on the original CPU the thermal paste was totally dried up. I reapplied new compound, cleaned the fins, fan and heat sink removed and reseated memory. Installed hard drive into another laptop to to verify HD. 

8 beeps. Screen won't turn on

It started with overheating problems sometime ago, then 2-3 weeks ago whenever I turned on the laptop it wouln't boot or show anything, meaning it would turn on, the lights were on but there were no beeps of signs of boot or any display (well, screen backlight was actually going on but it was still dark), What I did whenever that happend was letting the battery dry out and then would plug it to the power supply and turn it on, usually worked.
Then, about a week ago, it stopped working all together - whenever I turn it on, the screen stays black and after a few seconds the laptop starts to beep 8 times over and over again until I shut it down. I've read online that 8 beeps means there's a problem with my screen or something like that.
I've tried connecting it to an external monitor yesterday and it does work.

Laptop n5010 Intel® Core™ i5 Processor with 4GB Ram and 1GB ATI v550 graphics card.
